On a scale of 1 - 10 I rate this product a 9+

While wandering around in Walmart I spotted the appliance section. I always love to see what is new and watch the prices with hopes of maybe buying. Well, I saw the Air Fryers and noticed that the Farberware was only $69.00. Those advertised on TV are around $100+ so this was one of the lowest prices I had seen so far and I knew the brand was one I had bought before and trusted. And since I had been wanting to try the Air Fryer since they first came out, that price was all it took for me to break down and buy the Farberware Oil-Less Fryer (Air Fryer).

I couldn't wait to get home and try it out. I was making Salmon Patties for dinner but didn't see a recipe for them in the cookbook that came with it. There was, though, a recipe for crab cakes so I simply changed it up a bit and used salmon instead of crab. They took about 10 minutes to cook and came out crispy on the outside and beautiful on the inside.

Next I made Boneless Pork Chops. I used the Country Fried Steak breading recipe but changed the outer crust to Panko instead of regular bread crumbs. These came out crispy (not like country fried steak) and moist. Delicious.

Then came the wings. These were simple to make. You put the wings in the basket, cook for about 10 minutes, dredge in BBQ sauce, cook another 5 minutes, dredge in more BBQ sauce and cook another 5 minutes. You won't believe how great these came out! I've actually made these twice.

Clean up - It took me about 5 minutes to clean the basket and pan after making the wings and less after making the other dishes. I can't wait to make even more delicious dishes using this HEALTHY piece of equipment.

So, if this is so good why didn't I give it a 10? The timer and temp buttons are hard to read, but not impossible.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-86760521887188653672017-09-12T08:11:00.000-07:002017-09-12T08:11:52.495-07:00Martha White Mexican Style Cornbread & Muffin Mix

On a scale of 1 - 10 I rate this product a 10+

For years I've enjoyed the cabbage and Mexican cornbread that was served by K & W Cafeteria near my home. Well, they closed! I would order the same thing every time, so much so that the line lady didn't even ask what I wanted. I would always order 'Mexican cornbread on a plate, topped with a double order of cabbage and juice spooned over the bread until it was soggy.' This was my normal, delicious order. I had no idea where I would, nor if I would, ever find my favorite dish with them no longer there.

I've tried several recipes for Mexican cornbread and never seemed to find the right taste. I don't normally use mixes so when I spotted the Martha White Mexican Style Cornbread. After checking the ingredients I found it had no sugar, I don't like sweet cornbread, so I decided I would give it a try. What did I have to lose. The directions were simple - 2/3 cup milk (I used buttermilk) and 1 egg. And the calorie count was only 130 calories per serving (don't know what the buttermilk added) but since I was only eating the cornbread and cabbage it couldn't be too bad for me.

I have to tell you right off. This mix is delicious! The buttermilk gave it a flavor that was even better than K & W's. One of the ingredients was jalapeno peppers giving it just the perfect heat. It didn't have the whole corn but that was ok since there wasn't that much in K & W's so it wasn't missed. And the price is around $1.00 for the package! This has now taken the place of my K & W Mexican cornbread that I can now make anytime I want and enjoy.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-57814857748229483352017-04-08T06:50:00.000-07:002017-04-08T06:50:29.291-07:00AquaStar Crispy Battered Alaskan Cod

I rate this product a 10+.

I love cod! I have only 1 select restaurant that serves it with a nice crispy crust with the fish being thick, flaky and moist. Yum! But I can't always make it to the restaurant when I have a 'cod attack.' I've tried just about every pre-battered cod product in the stores but haven't been able to find one that fits my taste... that is until I found AquaStar.

I don't fry my foods. I usually cook my fish in a toaster oven hoping to get a crispy crust with the fish still being moist. Most of the time the crust comes out moist with the fish being dry. The opposite of what I want.

AquaStar Crispy Battered Alaskan Cod is exactly what its name says. I cook it on about 400 in the toaster oven for about 20 minutes (frozen straight from the freezer). When done I drizzle a little Malt Vinegar and I'm ready to eat.

So far I've only been able to find this product at Walmart. Hopefully some of the other grocery stores will start carrying it but until they do you can bet I'll make a special trip to Walmart when I'm running low.

I rate this product - 10+ - but not for my hair (read on)

I have a skin condition where I'm losing my pigment. I keep my hair short and wear a hat most of the time but when I'm not wearing my hat I want a shampoo that will give my hair a little body so I'm constantly trying different shampoos. I bought Neutrogena Triple Moisture hoping it would give me this much needed body. Well, it didn't - BUT -

I found another use for this product. Due to my pigment loss my skin is extremely dry! I've tried lotions and they simply don't work for me. Out of a whim I decided to lather up with one of the many bottles of shampoo I've bought. The 1st one I picked up was the Neutrogena. I lathered up my arms and legs in the shower, toweled off and noticed how soft my skin was. I also noticed later in the day that it was still soft. I could run my nail across my arm and there was NO dry skin.

This 'shampoo' works better than any body wash I've EVER tried! I have no doubt as a shampoo it will work for most people but for me it's my #1 body wash from now on.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-53416057464393310222017-01-18T08:22:00.000-08:002017-01-18T08:22:20.990-08:00Jimmy Dean Delights Frittatas - Bacon & Spinach

When I first became aware of this product it was through a coupon I found in the paper. What caught my eye was that it contained no flour as an ingredient. So I started my search. I checked with all my local grocery stores and no one seemed to know what it was and apparently didn't carry it. After a few months I gave up. That is until they started advertising on TV starting my search all over again. I checked one of the local stores and they, again, didn't carry and had never heard of it. I didn't give up. While in Walmart I decided to check their breakfast section to see if they carried it. Not there - so I thought. I spotted a man stocking the frozen food section and he knew exactly what I was looking for and took me to the 'light' section. There they were!

I decided to try 2 of the different flavors - Bacon & Spinach and Turkey Sausage & Bacon. I've just tried the Bacon & Spinach and believe me it is delicious! You just pop it in the microwave for about 2 minutes and you have a simply delicious, filling Frittata (I call it muffin). This one has 14g of protein and only 260 calories per serving which consists of 2 muffins. It has egg with Mozzarella and Parmesan Cheese, Spinach and Bacon. I love them! Can't wait until tomorrow to try the Turkey Sausage & Bacon.

Give these a try.
Someone gave me a package of McCormic's Grill Mates Garlic, Herb & Wine Marinade and it sat in the cabinet until I finally noticed it some time later. It's a marinade that is normally used for fish, chicken or pork but I had a small beef roast that I decided to use it on. Well... that was a good decision but, I needed the roast for dinner and didn't have time to do much marinading.

I mixed the 1/4 cup of oil, 1/4 cup water and 2 Tbsp. of vinegar, poured it into my slow cooker and added my roast, let it cook on med. heat for about 4 hours and turned it about every hour. The last hour I added 3 large baking potatoes that I cut into thirds, an onion I cut into chunks and a few carrots. This cooked for about another hour with me turning the potatoes about half way through.

This is the 1st time I've ever cooked a roast with potatoes that required no salt, no pepper, no steak sauce on the roast and no butter on the potatoes. Everything! was seasoned perfectly. This product worked perfectly. Wonder how it will taste on fish, chicken or pork as it was made for?Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-57971641514682272482016-11-30T11:30:00.000-08:002016-11-30T11:30:23.609-08:00Reser's Red Skin Potato Salad

I NEVER buy pre-made potato salad! NEVER! I don't even order it at the restaurants. I like MY potato salad and only mine. Everyone else loves my potato salad too and I'm usually asked to bring it to events. Well.... my dearly beloved John picked up a carton of Reser's Red Skin Potato Salad at the Bi-Lo (Harvey's now). He said he wanted some potato salad but didn't want to put me out by having to make it. It does take a little time to peel and chop the potatoes, cook them just right, cut up the onion and pickles, etc. Well, he put some his plate that night. I stayed away from it. I don't like store bought potato salad!. He took a bite and insisted I just taste it. I did. If I hadn't pulled the plastic film off the carton myself I would have sworn that it was MY potato salad! It's so good! Just creamy enough, just the right amount of onions and pickles. Perfect!

So, that little 1 lb. container didn't last long. When I went to one of my local grocery stores I thought maybe I had been wrong all along about per-packaged potato salad. They didn't have the Reser's brand so I bought another. NO WAY! It was just as I remembered. Dry, sweet and just not creamy enough. When I went back to Bi-Lo I found the store had changed names (Harvey's) and crossed my fingers that they would still carry this little jewel. They do and I picked up a 3 lb. container. That was a mistake. I picked up regular potato salad. Creamy but too sweet and no onions. See, the Red Skin Potato Salad has just a bit of 'dill' pickles in it and that along with the onions are what make it the best!

Since I've discovered this delicious dish I have made it a staple in my refrigerator. I've actually slipped into refrigerator, taken out a nice spoonful and savored every morsel. Unless I have to make a large amount of potato salad to take somewhere, I'll be serving Reser's Red Skin.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-74331116985870027622016-11-05T10:18:00.000-07:002016-11-05T10:18:23.865-07:00Bear Creek Cheddar Potato Soup Mix

I've tried this soup mix before and liked it but it has now become one I love. I used it as a base for my Creamy Chicken Soup which became a hit not only with myself but my food testers as well. This is a soup mix that you should try with or without additions. I have and will keep a package handy at all times, especially during the cold months.
I'm not sure I would have tried this product had it not been for a cardholder's special price at my Harris Teeter grocery store. They listed it for $1.97 I decided to give it a try. I bought the Spinach Parmesan because I had planned to make a new dish called San Francisco Scramble which has spinach as a main ingredient and thought the Sabra might make a good topping for the dish. Boy was I right. But not only is it good as a topping, it's delicious as a dip using veggies, chips, crackers, and get this - hamburgers! I cooked a hamburger patty and topped it with the Sabra dip and didn't need anything else. This stuff is wonderful! Can't wait to try the other flavor - Farmer's Ranch.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I give this product a 10.

I've never really cared for sausage made with anything but pork and now and then just maybe beef but... while at the grocery store they were giving away samples of Aidells Chicken & Apple Smoked Sausage. It's gluten free and has no nitrates as well as being all natural. After buying it I wasn't sure I made a good purchase so it stayed in the freezer for about a month. I finally decided to give it a try and see just how good it might be but didn't want to make a dish that I put a lot of money nor time into. That's when I decided to cook it with cabbage like I do other sausages.

I melted about 1/4 stick of salt free butter in a pot, added about 1/2 head of a medium cabbage (cut into chunks), 1 small onion (sliced) and 1/2 cup of water. I brought it to a boil and turned it down to simmer, cooking for about 15 minutes. Then I added the Aidells, cooking on med. high heat for about 10 minutes.

I wasn't sure how the apple taste would fit my taste buds so I was still reluctant about this dish. Well I can now tell you that the apple and all the other tastes in this sausage was wonderful! The cabbage with the onion was also a great addition. If someone had made this dish and served it to me I would never have guessed that it was chicken. This is a must try dish for anyone who wants a quick, delicious dish. You can bet I'll be making this again.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-46362191631145788202016-02-22T12:02:00.000-08:002016-02-22T12:03:05.310-08:00McCormick Sesame Chicken Stir-Fry Skillet Sauce

I rate this product a 10!

This is a new product with Natural spices. All you add is chicken and vegetables. Well, I've tried seasoning packets before and never liked them but gave in to give this one a try. I had some chicken that I had cooked the night before that needed to be used and hopefully this would be just what it needed.

Here is what you do. You saute your chicken and veggies in oil and then add the sauce. Simple! Well since I already had my chicken cooked I eliminated that step. The product doesn't tell you what 'vegetables' to use so I decided to use bell peppers, scallions and broccoli. I sauted them until they were crispy done (about 5 minutes depending on how large your pieces are cut). Then the chicken was added and sauce. I did add a few sesame seeds because I like a lot of them in my dish but nothing else - no salt, no pepper, etc. To go with this I cooked a wild rice blend and served my chicken dish on top.

So how was the taste? WONDERFUL! I give this product a 10+! It was simple, seasoned perfectly and quick. I think I'll try a few other flavors of this product.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I give this product an 8, and a 10 after I made an addition to the ingredients.

This is a simple dish to make. You simply brown sausage, add a can of Margaret Holmes' Simple Suppers Dirty Rice Fixins' and cook until bubbly hot. When I bought this I didn't read the meat that was to be added - the sausage - and when I decided to cook I found I didn't have any thawed but did have a package of Polska Kielbasa. I cut it thin, fried and added the can of Rice Fixins'. First taste didn't quite get me. It had just a slight can flavor but since I had invested a full package of the Kielbasa I had to make it right. What I really didn't like was the liquid. I prefer a drier Dirty Rice. Looking around the pantry I spotted a package of instant Loaded Potatoes. Why not. I sprinkled about 1/4 cup into my mixture and guess what - it was perfect. And delicious!

Now that I've tried this with Kielbasa I now want to give it a try with the sausage. So, give this one a try and simply 'Think With Your Taste Buds' if you don't like the original product.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-22152798614133506612015-10-08T12:07:00.000-07:002015-10-08T12:07:32.336-07:00Munch Rights Cinnamon Apple Puffs

On a scale of 1 - 10 I give this product a 15+

I've been gluten free for most of the year and am always looking for new gluten free products to try. I frequently go to the Dollar Tree to purchase some of my shipping supplies and always scan through the whole store just to see what they might have that I didn't see the last time I was there. When I went through the food section I spotted a bag of Cinnamon Apple Puffs. The package says - 0g Trans Fat; No Preservatives; Gluten Free; and No MSG. Right up my taste alley. I checked the other info and found they have 140 calories for about 47 pieces!; 1g of saturated fat; 15 mg sodium; and 3g of sugar. And that $1.00 bag has 3 servings making them even more desirable. So I bought a bag to try.

I couldn't wait to get them home and see if I had found a winner. First bite I knew I had. So far I've eaten them straight from the bag and last night I dipped them in my Cashew Butter for a taste that is heavenly.

I loved this product so much that I went back to the store a few days later and bought 5 bags, just in case they run out and don't restock. These aren't perfect for me but they are the perfect snack for kids. They are soft and virtually melt in your mouth.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I rate this a 20!

Many of you know that I've been looking for the perfect Greek seasoning that matches that used in one of my favorite Greek owned restaurants. Of course they won't tell me what they mix to get that delicious taste so I've been trying to create my own. I mix this and that and have come pretty close but not quite. It also takes a bit of time to gather all of the herbs and blend them just perfectly only to find you're running low on one meaning you have to run to the store to replenish. It's also hard to take when you get ready to sprinkle that tasty mixture over the chicken or pork chops you're planning on baking for dinner and find that you don't have enough.

Well, I've found the perfect solution! I was in Walmart a couple weeks ago checking out the markdown items. I spotted a container of Cavender's All Purpose Greek Seasoning and decided that since it was in the markdown I might as well give it a try. Turns out it wasn't marked down at all. Across from the markdowns were the spices. Someone had stuck it back in the wrong place and boy am I glad they did!

This seasoning is perfect!!!! I don't have to mix nor fix anything. It has the perfect blend giving me the same taste I get from the restaurant. I have a feeling they wouldn't give me the recipe for their seasoning because they use Cavender's too.

I've put this on my chicken and pork chops whether I'm baking or grilling. I added some to my stew meat that went into my soup. I can't wait to use it on cube steak to give it perfect taste. With this you don't need salt, pepper, garlic or any other seasonings. This has it all! I also gave some to my neighbor and she put it in her mashed potatoes and sprinkled it on her broccoli.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-53236098131447855352015-09-09T13:39:00.000-07:002015-09-09T13:39:26.643-07:00Duncan Hines Perfect Size Cake Mix

I rate this product a 10+

When I first spotted this cake mix on the shelf I liked the idea of a smaller cake mix that would feed 2-4 people. When I read that it comes with its own throwaway pan that made it even better. Then I saw it also included the icing making it the full deal... but... normally when you see icing included you can bet there isn't enough so I felt sure you would be no where near enough to ice the cake.

Even though I was a little skeptical I went ahead and bought the Red Velvet Dream mix and yes I bought an extra container of Cream Cheese Frosting to fill in for the lack of what the box included. I took my mix home and found it really very simple to make. The cake required 1 egg, 1/4 cup of water and 2 Tablespoons of butter. The pan that came with it is 6" and looked like it would make the perfect size cake for my family of 2. The icing I noticed was dry and it required 1 teaspoon of water and 4 Tablespoons of soft butter. That too was simple enough to make.

So, how did my 'little' cake come out? I have to say great! I couldn't believe how much icing the package made - no I didn't have to use ANY of the extra that I bought. The size came out to be about 6" across but it was as thick and maybe even a little thicker than what a 2 layer mix makes so it wasn't a thin layer. As for taste - I'm not a chocolate lover but I have many friends who are and the 2 that were lucky enough to have a slice of my new 'little' cake wanted more. They both agreed that it was moist and it is a mix that they will both be buying to make for themselves.

Now that I know how good this 'little' cake mix really is I plan on trying at least 2 of the other flavors - Lemon Bliss and Strawberries and Cream. The both have to be delicious.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-32743954486453692202015-07-23T15:23:00.001-07:002015-07-23T15:23:23.463-07:00Olde Cape Cod Toasted Sesame Soy & Ginger

Since going on a diet I've been looking for a dressing that would be tasty as well as one that wouldn't take much to flavor. In the past I've always used Ranch on just about all of my salads but when eating at Asian restaurants I've always made the change to their delicious dressings, especially those containing ginger and sesame. When using my Ranch I have to load my salad down to get flavor in every bite. With Asian dressings it only takes a little. So with the diet came the search for a truly good Asian dressing, not only for taste but also for lack of calories due to the flavor going a long way.

I think I ended up buying every Asian dressing in the grocery stores around me only to give them a try and either throw them away or give them away. I searched through the dressing isle as well as the Oriental food section. Then over near the marinades I found Olde Cape Cod Toasted Sesame Soy & Ginger - Fat Free. It was about the only brand I haven't tried so I decided to add it to my list of rejects. The store (Food Lion) had 4 bottles and the price wasn't bad. Just over $3.00 for a 16 oz. bottle. I took it home and gave it a try. It was wonderful! The perfect blend! I love it! I even went back to the store and bought the other 3 bottles just in case they don't restock. Last night I decided to try something with my little taste of Asia. I drizzled just a little over my apple slices. Oh my what a great treat. Tonight I had a salad with chicken, a sprinkle of cheese, almond slivers, apple chunks and my Soy & Ginger Dressing. The salad was large and believe it or not but I only used 2 Tbsp. of dressing which is only 40 calories - and no fat!

If you like Asian dressings this is one you really don't want to miss. I'm looking forward to giving this one a try as a marinade or maybe drizzled over a noodle dish.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-64984175685226483142015-07-11T13:41:00.000-07:002015-07-11T13:41:23.222-07:00Popped Potato Crinkles

I rate this product a 15!

Since I've been trying to eat gluten free I'm always on the lookout for something new to try. Last week I spotted a product that is distributed by Medora Snacks called Popped Potato Crinkles. They not only state that they are gluten free but they also had 60% less fat than regular potato chips. I decided to give them a try. They are simply delicious and will be my major choice for chips from now on.

A couple nights ago I decided I wanted a bowl of soup for dinner - nothing else. I love soup but seldom eat it because I can't load it down with crackers - they have gluten in them. I spotted my Popped Potato Crinkles and decided why not. I crumbled up a few in my soup and boy was I in for a surprise. They soften up but don't get soggy like crackers. They add another texture to the soup and are simply delicious!!! Now I can have my soup and a really great substitute for crackers anytime I want.

So, if you're like me and feel soup just isn't soup with crackers, give these a try. I think you'll like them too. They do come in different flavors but so far the only one I've tried is the Sea Salt. I want to try the Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt next.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-28643244609169960632015-06-30T13:39:00.001-07:002015-06-30T14:18:05.085-07:00Midwood Smokehouse - Central Ave., Charlotte, NC

I rate this food a 100+. No that is not a mistake with an added 0. It is a 100+.

Most of you already know that I'm from Georgia and if you know anything about those of us that grew up in the south you know that most of us love our Collards. When I was a child my mother grew them every fall. For a time, as an adult, I had the benefit of my own small garden and you can bet I had Collards in the fall. Now that I'm living smaller and without the room I can't wait to hit the markets in the fall to get my fresh collards. The rest of the year I rely on those shipped in from wherever or as a last resort I'll buy frozen. Yes... I love my collards.

For years I thought my collards were the best. I've tried those others have cooked and most are overcooked giving them a mushy texture. I like that little crunch in mine. I've always seasoned with pork - ham bones, ham hocks, just about any pork that is seasoned with a little smoke. Other than salt that is all I've ever added to my collards when cooking. Then I went to Midwood Smokehouse! I ordered BBQ the 1st time and for my side I chose slaw. Then I spotted a man eating a bowl of collards and decided to change my order. Glad I did.

I really wish I had taken a camera with me so I could give you a true picture of the best collards ever. You can't take a bite without getting a piece of meat. It has just a hint of heat and just a bite of vinegar, plus I believe there is a little onion and possibly some garlic flavoring them. Whatever it is, I could go in there and order nothing but collards and be in hog heaven for the rest of the day. These are THE best collards I've ever eaten! So for those of you who are lucky to live near them, don't pass up giving this dish a taste. They are the BEST COLLARDS I'VE EVER PUT IN MY MOUTH!

Oh yeah - they serve you on a real plate! And a pretty one too.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-71132821157905660812015-03-15T15:18:00.000-07:002015-03-15T15:18:52.057-07:00Van's Natural Foods - Crackers

I rate this product a 10+

With my discontinue of Gluten I'm always on the lookout for products to replace those I've given up. Since crackers are one of those foods I started looking for a good replacement... and I found one.

I ran across Van's Natural Foods in the grocery department of Walmart and decided to give them a try. They are made from things like oats, brown rice, millet, quinoa and amaranth... and no gluten free. They have no artificial colors, flavors, and no hydrogenated oils. Plus I can have 30 of these bite-size gems putting only 140 calories into my meal. And they are delicious!

I've tried the gluten free cheese crackers but so far my favorite is the 'Lots of Everything!' which has a very fitting name. They also have 'Fire Roasted Veggies', 'Perfect 10' and 'Multigrain.' I can't wait to see if they are as good as the 2 I've tried.

On my gluten free diet I also had to give up my croutons. Well, I've found something better than the croutons. The Gluten Free Cheese Crackers are delicious added to the salad in place of the croutons. They stay crispy too, which adds another texture to my salad. These little crackers have become a must have in all of my salads.

So, if your Walmart doesn't carry these delicious crackers, here is the link to Van's Natural Foods so you can find a store that does.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-57902218266825420792015-03-02T13:15:00.001-08:002015-03-02T13:15:22.698-08:00Urbane Grain - Quinoa Miso with Edamane & Scallions

OK, last time I posted my review for Quinoa Roasted Garlic and Herbs. This time I'm reviewing the Urbane Grain's product Quinoa Miso with Edamain & Scallions. As with the other flavor, this one is Gluten Free making it perfect for my diet. When I read the 'flavor' I really wasn't sure how it would taste nor what to cook it with so I talked to a neighbor. She tried to explain the Miso flavor to me but that is actually quite impossible to do I had eaten Edamaine in a salad so I knew a little about that taste and of course I love scallions and cook with them frequently. So, on the advice of my Food Tester and Friend Carol, I decided to use a pork tenderloin as my meat to go with this dish.

I butterflied my tenderloin and sprinkled the slit with garlic, rosemary, salt and pepper. It cooked for about 4 hrs. in my slow cooker on med. high (this tenderloin was about 6" thick). When it was done I removed it and strained the liquid. 1 1/2 cups of the liquid went back into the slow cooker along with the Quinoa which I cooked for about 30 minutes on med. high. This time may vary depending on your cooker. Now was it good? You bet! I could see how Carol couldn't describe the Miso flavor. It is very unique but tasty. And when you combine it with the edamane and scallions, you have a great dish that accompanied the pork perfectly.

Carol: (This is what my Food Tester/Friend Carol had to say about this dish) The slices of pork roast reasoned lightly with rosemary and garlic was a perfect marriage with the quinoa-miso flavored dish. The smokiness and well-defined flavor of the quinoa was perfect to bring out the subtlety of the pork. We love pork and are always looking for different recipes and this is one we will add to our regulars!

Food Tester Sharon: All I can say is that I LOVED IT! Please make it again.

As many of you know, I've been eating gluten-free and in doing so I'm always on the look out for something new to try and that is how I ran across this Urbane Grain Quinoa Roasted Garlic & Fine Herbes. The package stated it was all natural and of restaurant quality. I checked the ingredients 1st and they were: Parboiled Brown Rice (which I love), Quinoa, Mullet, roasted garlic, sea salt, autolyzed yeast (new one to me), and herbs. Since it had roasted garlic I decided it had to be good. Well, I was right.

I had cooked a pork tenderloin and decided to use some of the strained broth for the cooking of my Quinoa blend. I also added about 1/2 tsp. of dehydrated onions and a small can of drained mushrooms. Boy did I have a delicious dish! They were correct in their statement that it was restaurant quality. My food testers loved it too so this one is a keeper and a must make again.

Now I'm looking forward to trying their other flavors as well as some of their other products.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-58879435610475937632015-01-27T12:22:00.001-08:002015-01-27T12:22:14.462-08:00DeBoles Gluten Free Rice Spaghetti

On a scale of 1 - 10 I give this product a 10.

After the flu and Christmas I decided to give a gluten free diet a try. That meant giving up ALL wheat. It also meant coming up with some dishes using gluten free products. I've tried the coconut flour and loved it's taste and texture. I've now tried the De Boles Gluten Free Rice Spaghetti Style Pasta. I made my spaghetti sauce as usual but substituted my regular pasta for De Boles Rice pasta. Would I like it?

First off, I like the fact that the ingredients are all natural, no preservatives or chemicals added. Now for cooking. It does cook up like a rice but keeps it shape. You do have to rinse it in cold water which makes it separate and not stick together. Then came the taste test. I could not tell the difference in the taste of my regular pasta made with wheat and the rice pasta! It is perfect and best of all Gluten Free.

Now for a comment on the Gluten free diet. I've lost 10 lbs since Christmas, am not hungry like I thought I would be after giving up breads, etc. but just as good as the weight loss is my energy level. I have so much energy that I've even started cleaning my attic! And I'm sleeping good too. This diet might not be for everyone but with products like those made by De Boles it sure has made my giving up gluten very easy. I'm looking forward to trying more of their products.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-77001689690711892232014-12-31T13:51:00.000-08:002014-12-31T13:51:31.275-08:00McCormick Gourmet Garlic & White Wine Chicken Scaloppine

On a scale of 1 - 10 I rate this product a 10+

I found this package of McCormick Gourmet Garlic & White Wine Chicken Scaloppine on sale and decided to give it a try. Sure glad I did. This is one of the best chicken dishes I've had in a long time. The flavors are perfectly blended and absorb into the chicken and orzo giving both a wonderful taste. The original recipe called for 1 1/2 cups of water or chicken stock and 1/2 cup of white wine. I increased the broth and eliminated the wine. My food testers that were given this to try have all raved about how good this turned out. And it's so simple to make.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1401774040350561843.post-26182041576767915082014-12-29T11:26:00.001-08:002014-12-29T11:26:30.604-08:00Scrub Daddy

Now and then someone gives me something that is simply great. For Christmas this year a friend gave me 2 Scrub Daddy 'sponges'. I'm actually not sure if this qualifies as a sponge or not but I do know it is right up there with sliced bread.

This little cleaning tool works a couple of ways. If you use it in cool water it stays firm. Use it in warm water and it softens up. This dual texture makes it more useful than any sponge I've ever seen.

Now does it work? I've been using it with cool soapy water on my counter tops. I hate to admit it but I've removed stuff that I didn't even know was there. Don't get me wrong, I keep a clean kitchen but apparently the counters end up with a build up from cleansers. I've also used it on my refrigerator door handle. It's textured and no matter what I've sprayed it with it never seems to come clean. Does now! The door handle on my refrigerator looks new.

I'm now on a cleaning spree and can't wait to try this little smiley face on all kinds of things.

Almost forgot - everything washes off and you can even put it in the dishwasher. Can you tell how much I love this simple little present?! Now, where do you buy them. Go to the Scrub Daddy site and you'll find where they are available in your area.

On a scale of 1 - 10 I rate this product a 9.

I used this mix to make the Phad Thai not knowing what it even was. It's a product I've not tried before so had no idea as to how it would turn out. I followed the recipe on the back of the package, which was really simple. It required soy sauce, water, chicken, oil, noodles, and of course the packet. I'm not one who has tried too many different Thai dishes so I'm not sure exactly how this was supposed to taste but I have a couple of friends who love Thai and after eating a good helping they both told me the flavor was great. It is slightly sweet and has a touch of heat (flavor wise).

I've given this dish a 9 because it is so easy to make and judging by my Food Testers the taste is really good. I would recommend this product to anyone who likes Thai food and a touch of heat. I am now planning to try some of this company's other products, such as their Honey Sesame Chicken (that is one dish I love even though it is sweet), their Lettuce Wrap seasoning and maybe even the Bourbon Chicken.Think With Your Taste Buds - Chickenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14095428312331087558noreply@blogger.com0
